Field Manager, Bakersfield Field Office, Bureau of Land Management

Gabe Garcia has served as field manager of the federal Bureau of Land Management’s Bakersfield Field Office since 2013. The office manages 600,000 acres of public surface in eight counties and about 1.3 million acres of subsurface minerals statewide. Gabe’s jurisdiction includes the Case Mountain Extensive Recreation Management Area, home to 101 giant sequoias. Case Mountain is part of the nearly 20,000 acre Kaweah Area of Critical Environmental Concern (ACEC) designated in the Bakersfield Resource Management Plan for protection of the Case Mountain giant sequoia groves, other sensitive plant and animal species, riparian areas, and cultural resources. Gabe has a long career with the BLM. Before taking his current role, he served as assistant field manager of the office’s Minerals Division. Gabe earned a bachelor’s degree in biology at Chico State University and a master’s degree in business administration at National University.
